Genre: Christian Historical Romance Rating (1-5): 5 Plot: Great Characters: Very Good I have read many of Melanie Dickerson's books, and her specialty is retellings, specifically fairytales! If you know me, I'm pretty much convinced I was a Disney princess in a past life, so anything to do with fairytales has my name all over it. This particular book is set in the 1300's and has some major Robin Hood vibes, minus talking animals (bummer, right?). Enter our two main characters: Odette, the town beauty, is poaching deer and other animals in the king's forest, and using the poached meat to provide meals for the poor in the town, in secret. Jorgen, the handsome forester, is in charge of keeping track of wildlife in Thornbeck forest, as well as tracking down poachers. **This is not a spoiler! It is basic knowledge after the first two chapters.** I was STRESSED this whole book, just because I NEEDED to know how the main conflict was going to resolve, which made it a major page turner. There are a few shocking betrayals in this book, which literally left me with my jaw hanging open. The plot was heart-stirring, and I walked away from this book feeling very satisfied. Her books always seem to have a twist you weren't expecting, which is the case with this one. Melanie is simply just a really good author, which is why her books are always among my favorites. Another reason I keep going back to Melanie's books is because the romance she writes is clean, pure, romance. Just like in this book, her characters have a connection with God, and are trying to find ways to do what they think is right while also serving Him. There are multiple references to scripture in her books, as well as dialogue between characters about their relationship with Him. WOULD I RECOMMEND I highly recommend this book to anyone! If you don't normally read historical fiction, or Christian romance, I think if you gave this book, as well as Melanie's other works, a chance, you'd be pleasantly surprised.
